Piracy Bill 2012 was enacted with special thought about this illegal practice. Before, piracy was not listed as a crime in the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Later it was amended thereby making it a crime and the piraters who will be caught will be prosecuted with heavy punishment and penalty. The downloader is also doing the crime and will be punished accordingly when caught.
